Japanese Skateboarding | 3RDZ
Hand-drawn graphite Shugo Ohmori art print based on a skate photograph by Masa Yoshimoto. Originally from Osaka, Shugo leads Nagoya-based 3RDZ, a Japanese skate crew and independent video project.
I’d known Shugo for a good while through Katsuhiro Abe (Apporo Dist/AFC Sapporo) before we eventually all met in London. Abe is a long time filmer of the Japan skate scene who also distributed Science in Japan. Shugo and Abe stayed for a couple of weeks and we spent most of that time skating and filming around the city. Good memories. Abe later released 'NoTitle', a 5 minute video released on DVD, focused on Shugo.
Shugo supported Science for years in Japan, and I’ve always liked the style and ideas behind what he does with 3RDZ. Masa and I also worked together on the Life Sentence board, which was later launched with an exhibition at Shelter Skate Shop in Kobe.
